One of the things we asked ourselves is "What do we wish we would have had access to when we were starting out? Or for that matter, even now?"
There are few substitutes for what can be gained by working with someone and diving into their project files. The epiphany moments you experience when you see how someone else achieves something in contrast to how you would have is priceless. For many of us who may not live in a major market or work in-house at studios, these opportunities can sadly be hard to come by.
In starting Holdframe, our aim is to build a community-centered platform which will create a new educational tool for everyone to learn from while also providing a scalable means for the creators in our community to make passive income off of their unique points of view, original work, and expertise.
Why should I care?
For a lot of reasons!
Holdframe has been made independently by members of our community, for the members of our community. When you purchase a product from the Market, the majority of all proceeds go directly to the artists themselves. What money Holdframe makes goes toward keeping the lights on and developing new tools intended directly for our community's betterment.
So, is Holdframe just a store?
For now, yes, but we view this experiment more as a growing platform. The hope is that by partnering with select creators, we can start small and continue to expand and see where it takes us!
What is the difference between the Market and Freebies pages?
The Market page is where we showcase our featured products which you can purchase for educational purposes.
As noted above, nothing can compete with seeing just how other people work and solve problems. The idea for the Market is simple: learn from the best while being able to help support them in the process.
The Freebies page is where you can find community-submitted project files which are available to download for free.
The idea for the Freebies is even simpler: by us all sharing seemingly innocuous bits, the collective knowledge can expand and, in turn, we all benefit from it! The hope is that the Freebies page can become an ever expanding and diverse collection of work to learn from.
